The Mickelson Trail
"This trail may be our last opportunity to provide a pathway that is easily used by the
elderly, people with disabilities and the very young, as well as hikers, bicyclist and
other more traditional trail users. History, nature and a pure physical enjoyment of the
outdoors are important to all of us. We have a duty to the future and to ourselves to
preserve these values as embodied by the trail and to make them available for everyone
to enjoy."
— George S. Mickelson
114 Miles of Rails to Trail out our back door. The length of the magnificent Black Hills
can be seen on the wonderful trail named after Gov. George S. Mickelson who spearheaded
the concept to convert the old CB&Q rail line into one of Americas premier Rails-to-Trail.
